Frederic Guilbert has posted on Twitter ‘the past is in the past’ as he returned to pre-season for Aston Villa on Monday.
The 27-year-old has been sent out on-loan by Villa for the past two seasons, with the now-sacked Dean Smith, the man who purchased him when they were in the Championship, making those calls.
During that period, Matty Cash has become the club’s bonafide right-back, including winning the Supporters Player of the Year last season.
But, Villa don’t have a clear back-up to the Poland international heading into the new campaign, so does Guilbert now get his chance under Steven Gerrard?
Well, time will tell as it seems as though the Frenchman is keen to put whatever happened before behind him and now look forward.
“The past in the past,” said Guilbert. “Let’s look to the future.”
BIG PRE-SEASON FOR GUILBERT
Back in January, Kaine Kesler Hayden was on-loan at Swindon Town and the teenager impressed during an FA Cup tie against Manchester City.
Gerrard insisted on the Boodymoor Heath star returning during the winter transfer window, so he could take a look at him, before he was loaned back out to MK Dons.
A back-up is needed to Cash, but will it be the youngster or the experienced pro? Well, if Gerrard isn’t overly excited by what he sees from Guilbert, then he might just be sold.
But, if Guilbert impresses, then he might just win his place back, with the easy option of sending Kesler Hayden to develop his game even further next season.
