Joe Cole hailed Arsenal transfer target Federico Valverde for the ‘passion’ and quality he has shown for Uruguay at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Real Madrid star is at the top of his game and Cole thinks he is an ‘outstanding’ player, as he told ITV Sport.

Valverde showcased that when Uruguay opened their World Cup account in Doha with a point against South Korea and one passage of play caught the supporters’ eyes.

After going in and winning a crunching tackle near the sidelines, he proceeded to punch the air in delight and celebrate like a goal had been scored.

That moment of ‘passion’ and ‘commitment’ pleased former England international Joe Cole.

“He’s an outstanding player,” said Cole. “He was brilliant in the Champions League final. I love that. That’s commitment.

“The Latin teams. They do play with passion.”

ARSENAL’S INTEREST IN VALVERDE

It’s a long shot from Arsenal, but they are showcasing interest in one of the most in-form and all-round midfielders in the world today.

Under Mikel Arteta, the Gunners are seemingly heading down the unthinkable road of possibly becoming champions of England by the time the final ball is kicked in May.

Well, if they end their long-wait to become Premier League champions again, then they will need some of those ingredients to lure a player of Valverde’s calibre towards their direction.

It won’t happen, but perhaps one day the Premier League could benefit from having a player of his calibre that can do the lot.
