Pep Lijnders has hailed Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez and how his passion for the game is ‘insane’, as he told Premier League Productions (06/03/23 at 5:30 pm).

The Liverpool assistant praised Nunez for the ‘love’ he has for the ball and how his ambition is ‘even higher’ than his passion.

There was a lot of noise when the Reds secured Nunez’s services during the summer transfer window for many, many reasons.

On one hand, he arrived for a club-record transfer fee, so there was that pressure and then he was joining as Sadio Mane was heading for the exit door, even though the duo are different types of forwards.

But Erling Haaland’s arrival at Manchester City also made that spotlight warmer and then the simple fact that he is playing for a club the size of Liverpool.

From his sending-off against Crystal Palace to his recent brace against Manchester United, it has been a drama-filled start for Nunez and Lijnders was full of praise for the 23-year-old.

“We love to work with this one (Nunez) because the passion is insane,” said Lijnders. “The ambition is even higher than the passion. The love for the ball. In each game, he creates six chances by himself and this is a new chapter.

“This is LFC back to the number nine chapter. I think whatever front three you put now with Jota, Darwin, Bobby, Mo, Luiz and Cody, then you have a front three and one who can have the willingness to work really hard and can create speed-ups in many ways.”

NUNEZ STARTING TO FIND HIS FEET

A certain Luis Suarez was raw and rash in front of goal when he first joined Liverpool from Ajax and he turned into a superstar of the highest order.

Slowly but surely, his fellow countryman is starting to cook and warm up in front of goal.

That’s eight Premier League goals for a player that has been questioned a lot this season, but fans will probably have to wait until the next campaign to see the very next level of the £140k-a-week star (Spotrac).
