Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told The Guardian that he will be backed by Stan Kroenke in the summer transfer window.
Arteta has said that the current Arsenal squad needs changing, and the Spaniard has said that the club’s owners will spend money when the window opens.
The Spaniard told The Guardian: “The squad needs changing. There were already a lot of changes in December, something that has not been done in years, but it tells us where we were. Things are going to have to change and the owners are going to back it up.”
Arsenal owner Kroenke has often been criticised for not splashing the cash, but it seems that things will change for the better this time around.
Of course, it remains to be seen exactly how much money Arteta gets to spend on new players in the summer transfer window, but it appears that the intention is to go big and make the team competitive again.
Arsenal are unlikely to finish in the Premier League top four this season and were also knocked out at the semi-final stage of the Europa League by Unai Emery’s Villarreal.
The Gunners have not challenged for the league title for years and are not regulars in the Champions League anymore.
This means that Arsenal could have problems in attracting the best players.
However, the Gunners are a massive club and a global brand, and they should be able to attract players who are better than what they have.
Arteta is a relatively inexperienced manager, but the Spaniard has clear ideas on how to get his team to play and what his players need to do.
