Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has been discussing Liverpool and their victory against Manchester City at the weekend.
The Reds were back to their brilliant best on Sunday as they beat the reigning Premier League champions at Anfield, and Ferdinand was very impressed by what he saw to say the least.
Indeed, the pundit lauded this game for the quality on show, and he claims that Liverpool are the only team in the world that can bring this type of fight to City and go toe-to-toe with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Liverpool can compete
Ferdinand discussed Liverpool’s ability to compete with City.
“What I saw at the weekend. Forget Liverpool or City, that was a high, high level of game. That was back to last season’s level of football between the two teams where you go ‘woah.’ This is two teams who are tactically at their best, two teams that are physically at their best and two teams that aren’t playing with a handbrake,
“Liverpool are the only team capable or have the guts to go toe-to-toe with this City team, Klopp and the confidence he instils in this team he’ll play Milner against Foden and he’ll put in a performance.”
The Anfield effect
Liverpool went into this game as heavy underdogs, but this is the effect that playing at Anfield can have.
The Reds refuse to show any team any respect when they’re playing at home. They go into every game knowing they can win, and more often than not, they’re right.
Liverpool know they can get the better of City because they’ve done it before, and while other teams will beat Guardiola’s side this season, you’re unlikely to see any other team play in this way against the Sky Blues.
Liverpool may well be the only team in the world who can truly take a game to Man City.
