Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrice Muamba has been discussing Everton after the departure of Rafa Benitez, and he’s reserved praise for Demarai Gray.

Everton fans won’t look back on the Benitez-era with the fondest of memories, but one man who did enjoy a purple patch under Benitez was Gray.

Indeed, the winger joined the Toffees in the summer, and he hit the ground running, even earning a Premier League Player of the Month nomination for his efforts.

While it’s easy to be negative about Everton at this time, Muamba recognised Gray’s brilliance this season, and gave him the credit he deserves.

What’s been said about Gray?

Muamba gave the winger a glowing review.

“The only player that I think has done well is Demarai Gray. Regarding him coming in, he’s done well. He was a bargain, he went to Germany where it didn’t work out for him, but he’s come back and found himself playing for Everton and he’s been great. Started 17 games, scored five goals, that’s not a bad return,” Muamba said.

Keep it up

While many Everton players need a fire lit under them when the new manager arrives, Gray just needs to keep up his recent levels.

The winger has been in the form of his life this season, and if he can continue in this way, there’s no reason why he can’t be a key player under the next manager as well, whoever that may be.

However, as we’ve seen in the past, sadly, a managerial change can derail certain players who were brilliant under the old regime, but hopefully, that won’t happen with Gray.
