Some Arsenal fans have praised Gabriel Martinelli on Twitter for his performance against Unai Emery’s Villarreal at the Emirates Stadium.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal failed to win against Villarreal at the Emirates Stadium in the second leg of their Europa League semi-final tie on Thursday evening.
Having lost the first leg of the tie 2-1 in Spain last week, the Gunners have been knocked out of the competition 2-1 on aggregate.
Martinelli was in action for Arsenal in the second leg at the Emirates Stadium, but the Brazilian did not start.
The 19-year-old came on as a substitute in the second half, and although the Brazilian tried his best and put the Villarreal defence under pressure, he simply could not make the breakthrough.
The youngster – who joined Arsenal from Ituano FC in the summer of 2019 for a transfer fee reported by Football.London to be worth £5.1 million with the club’s technical director Edu playing a big role in the transfer – was direct, showed a lot of energy, and pressed high, but he was often isolated on the left.
Although Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was denied by the frame of the Villarreal goal twice, the Gunners could not really put the visiting defenders under too much consistent pressure.

The Gunners could not dominate midfield, and their attacking forays were far from lethal.
Some Arsenal fans were impressed by the performance of Martinelli and have raved about him on Twitter.
