Leeds United can start mapping out their next step early.
Former Leeds United manager Garry Monk
Garry Monk stunned Leeds United yesterday by handing in his resignation, the club’s official website confirmed.
An exit had been on the cards with Monk failing to commit to a new contract, but his resignation was sudden and caught even the club owner off guard.
If there is one positive for Leeds, than fans can cling onto, it is the fact it has happened early.

New owner Andrea Radrizzani is already making major boardroom changes, and if Monk wasn’t prepared to buy in, it would always have been difficult.
A one year deal simply would not have worked. Leeds wouldn’t have been able to attract top players for their level, due to the lack of direction.
This way Radrizzani and new board member Ivan Bravo can bring in a manager he is comfortable working with, on a long term deal.
The Mirror report it could be Aitor Karanka, along with technical director Victor Orta.

They had mixed success at Middlesbrough, but at least they can work together. Whether Monk was prepared to work with Orta could have been a contentious sticking point.
The fact Monk has resigned early Leeds plenty of time to find a new boss, and gives his successor ample time to bed in.
This will help with signing players, and preparing for a crucial pre-season ahead of a campaign where a lot is expected..
Monk’s departure is a blow, but he has moved the club forward, and it’s now time for Whites fans to be upbeat about a future which can still deliver so much.
