Bookies Ladbrokes have suspended betting on McLeish replacing Pedro Caixinha at Ibrox.
McLeish would be a potentially very sensible appointment for the Gers, given their need to steady the ship.
He has been at the club before, winning two league titles, and as HITC Sport wrote a fortnight ago, he was the obvious choice.
The one major problem for the Gers is the amount of time it has taken to come to the conclusion that McLeish is Rangers’ best option.
They were previously linked to Derek McInnes, while names like Ante Postecoglou and Michel Preud’homme were also touted as options.
Caixinha was fired five weeks ago, and for the board to spend all this time looking for a successor and circling back to McLeish looks a little unimaginative.
There should be praise for due process, and not rushing into the wrong move, but when the right move is McLeish, it has to be asked why it took the board five weeks to realise it?
The lack of decisiveness does not reflect well on Rangers in general, and McLeish will have to show he was worth the wait.
