Liverpool fans think that they have an absolute gem of a youngster coming though their ranks after witnessing Rhys Williams’s performance last night.

Liverpool may have been knocked out of the League Cup on penalties yesterday, but Williams came out of the match with plenty of credit.

Arsenal and Liverpool played out a 0-0 draw in normal time, with Williams completely unflustered in the biggest game of his career to date.

The 19-year-old looked composed on the ball, and was dominant aerially.

And he is already drawing comparisons with a certain Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool fans.

Williams was actually sent out on loan by Liverpool to Kidderminster Harriers just last season, so his rise has been rather remarkable.

Williams could have a chance of earning more first-team chances at Anfield this season too, as Dejan Lovren’s departure means that Liverpool only have three recognised senior centre-backs in their squad.
