With Scottish football raving about the St Mirren midfielder after scoring a superb 35 yard strike this weekend, who is the ‘next big thing’ in Scottish football?

In the past he has been linked with Championship clubs but now it seems that Scottish midfielder Kenny Mclean can set his sights higher than that. After scoring a fabulous goal this weekend for St Mirren who is Kenny McLean and how good can the young Scot become?

1. Born in Rutherglen just outside of Glasgow it was no suprise that Kenny represented the youth team at Glasgow Rangers as a youngster.

2. After being released by Rangers he joined Paisley side St Mirren in 2010 before being sent out on a successful loan spell to Arbroath.

3. He scored his first goal in professional football for the Angus club, a penalty against Stirling Albion. He couldn’t however prevent The Red Lichties from relegation back to the Scottish Third Division.

4. After being brought on as a substitute for his debut against Hamilton he helped a resurgent St Mirren fight back to draw 2-2 earning plaudits for his bustling style of play and continual work ethic.

5. He won the October Young Player of the Month award in 2011 before being compared to Barry Ferguson in talent by team-mate and former Wigan winger Gary Teale.

6. At the seasons conclusion Kenny was nominated as one of four players for the SPL Young Player of the Year award due to his impressive performances in the heart of The Buddies midfield.

7. At international level he has represented Scotland at Under 19 and Under 21 level and it won’t be long before Craig Levein calls the 20 year old up to the first team to earn a full international cap with the form he is showing.

8. With his attack minded and unselfish play he is now being touted as the next Graeme Souness or Kenny Dalglish in the effect he can have on a game as well as his masterful technique and passing ability.
