Celtic reportedly have an option to bring in Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke.
Amid Chelsea’s attempts to sign Craig Gordon from Celtic, The Telegraph report that prolific young striker Dominic Solanke has been offered to the club on loan.
Gordon could well snub the chance to go and sit on the Chelsea bench, but regardless of this, Celtic must push on and try and use the opening to sign Solanke anyway.
Just like they lured Moussa Dembele away from Fulham and helped the Frenchman become Europe’s most in demand young striker, Celtic could turn Solanke into a big name player.
Dominic Solanke
Already the teenager has real potential. As Chelsea’s 2015 Academy Player of the Year, Solanke is a young striker who led England to the under-17 European Championships two years ago, finishing as top scorer at the tournament. So far he has 19 goals for England at various youth levels.
The 19-year-old has a prolific record at youth level for the Blues, helping them to winning the UEFA Youth League, where his record of 12 goals in 11 games speaks for itself, but he has fallen out of favour at the Blues after refusing so far to sign a new contract.
Dominic Solanke scores for Chelsea
Solanke’s contract is set to expire shortly, and Celtic could use a loan deal as a pathway to potentially sign him on a permanent basis.
With his path at Chelsea blocked by Diego Costa and Michy Batshuayi, Solanke could do with moving on, and has first team experience already from a loan spell at Dutch side Vitesse, where he scored seven goals.
Having lost Islam Feruz to the Blues several years ago, it would be particularly sweet for Celtic if they could end up snapping up one of Chelsea’s brightest prospects.
