Jamie Carragher has spoken of his admiration for Arsenal strike target Dominic Calvert-Lewin on Monday Night Football, which was broadcast on Sky Sports.

Number one target

Football London claim that Arsenal have made the Everton striker their number one target ahead of the next few transfer windows.

Calvert-Lewin has not been able to fully showcase his ability this term, due to injury.

However, he hit 16 Premier League goals last season – with his talents now said to be attracting the attentions of the Gunners hierarchy.

And Carragher spoke about just how big a fan of Calvert-Lewin he was on last night’s programme.

“You normally get one or the other really. You think of a front two and it’s a big guy and a quick guy around him, but you can do both,” Carragher said.

“I think in the game now we rarely see a front two, it’s one guy up-front.

“You can do both…

“I see you as the next best [English striker] after Harry Kane.”

Impressing on all fronts

Calvert-Lewin spoke with great confidence and maturity, despite still only being 24.

His talents are unlikely to have gone unnoticed over recent season though, which means that Arsenal could face paying a big fee if they are to tempt Everton to part ways with their chief goalscorer.

If he was to arrive at the Emirates Stadium he could be an exciting addition to Mikel Arteta’s squad though.

Calvert-Lewin would give Arsenal more aerial prowess, and he has all the physical capabilities to be able to fit in with their high pressing style.

Both Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang have been in impressive form recently, but there is a realisation that they are both reaching the twilight of their careers now, and Calvert-Lewin could represent a strong long-term replacement.
