Jose Mourinho has revealed that he has received a positive update on Christian Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Eriksen collapsed in Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland in Copenhagen on Saturday.
Information emerging today indicates that the former Tottenham midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest but survived after on-the-field medical intervention.
Mourinho spent a couple of months working with the player in North London, prior to his move to Inter Milan in January of 2020.
And the Portuguese has revealed that he reached out to Hojbjerg – whom he signed for Spurs last summer – and received a positive update from the player.
He told talkSPORT: “Of course, I didn’t speak with him but I spoke with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this morning and Pierre is very positive about Christian. The news is good, so I think it’s a moment to celebrate.”
It was a hugely unsettling scene at the stadium but thankfully it looks like the playmaker – who joined Tottenham from Ajax in 2013 – is going to pull through.
Eriksen spent six-and-a-half years playing for the Lilywhites and was one of their most influential players throughout that time, scoring 51 goals and setting up 62 in 226 Premier League appearances.
He joined the Italian giants 18 months ago and helped Inter – then under Antonio Conte – to a Serie A title in his first full season at San Siro.
