Aston Villa fans were left wowed by Carney Chukwuemeka’s performance during his side’s thumping 6-0 win against AFC Barrow in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.

The 17-year-old started Villa’s EFL Cup clash against the League Two side and he was one of many youngsters thriving on the senior stage.

Whilst Cameron Archer, who was making his first start for Villa, stole the headlines with his quite stunning hat-trick on debut, another man that impressed was Chukwuemeka.

Before Carney was replaced by his older brother, Caleb, in the second half, he was bossing proceedings in the middle of the park, alongside the more experienced Conor Hourihane.

Even though he is only 17, Carney has a very strong build for such a young kid and he is someone who uses his frame very well to keep control of the ball and win those physical duels.

A player who likes to carry the ball, Chukwuemeka glides across the pitch in an effortless fashion and continues to target those small pockets of spaces as he moves further up the pitch.

Given that Chukwuemeka already made his senior debut for Villa last season, won the FA Youth Cup last term and was on the bench against Newcastle over the weekend.

Then it’s obvious that this guy has some serious talent to burn during these coming years and now it’s a case of managing that quality in his boots.

Villa’s academy is absolutely thriving, at this moment in time, and their performance last night was proof of that.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Dean Smith uses the teenager from here on in because it wouldn’t be a surprise if his minutes build up as the season progresses.

Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting to Chukwuemeka’s performance last night:
