The former world and European champions are investigating the eligibility of an English-born Spurs star.

Tottenham Hotspur may be playing a large role in the present and future of English international football, but a shock report from the Mirror suggests that their as-yet-uncapped star Harry Winks could end up playing for Spain.
Spurs currently have Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose featuring as regulars in the Three Lions set-up, with a number of promising stars appearing at youth levels.
One of those hotly-tipped future prospects is Winks. The 21-year-old has enjoyed a successful breakthrough few months at White Hart Lane, scoring on his first Premier League start against West Ham back in November and racking up 32 appearances in all competitions this season.
The midfielder has represented England at five different youth levels since 2012, and made his debut for the Under-21s side in November.
However, according to the Mirror, his future may not be with the country of his birth after all, as former world and European champions Spain are allegedly investigating his eligibility.
Winks has Spanish grandparents, something which could make him available for senior selection by Las Rojas, as he is yet to feature for the senior England side.
The midfielder is seen by many as a likely future Three Lions star, and it seems unlikely that he would turn down the opportunity to feature for his home country alongside several of his club teammates.
Spain’s squad is notoriously hard to break into, but it appears as though the Spanish FA may feel that Winks has what it takes to play a role for their country.
