Newcastle United are said to be interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure.
Former Newcastle United boss John Carver once compared Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure to Alan Shearer, and those comments could take a new meaning following the latest transfer links.
Carver told the Manchester Evening Times back in 2015, while he was in charge at Newcastle, that Toure had taken on a Shearer like role at City.
He said: “They’ve had a massive boost in Toure coming back and the signing of (Wilfried) Bony.

“But Toure is like what Alan Shearer used to be for us.
“When Shearer was on the pitch he had this presence and everyone looked up to him. He was a huge leader.
“We have a similar situation with Toure at Man City.”
Newcastle have now been linked with Toure, ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to The Sun, Newcastle are looking to bring in the powerful midfielder – with his future at City currently in doubt.
Toure reportedly wants first-team football, and may reject a new contract at City to seek more regular game time.
Newcastle are said to be one option for the Ivorian international, with Rafael Benitez looking to improve his squad at St. James’ Park.
And if he could take on a leadership role, like Shearer, that could be crucial to any success that Newcastle have during their first season back in the Premier League.
