The midfielder has apparently struggled for form this season.

For much of this season the focus around Ross Barkley has been around his apparent poor form for Everton. The England midfielder was constantly in the papers as his manager Ronald Koeman publicly called for more from the player and he was left out of Sam Allardyce’s England squad.

Now he has miraculously burst back into form after this apparent lull but the reality is that Barkley’s poor form was something of a myth.

Koeman was rightly asking for more from his talented midfielder. But he was not criticising his current levels. What was clear, is that Koeman felt Barkley had much more to offer the team considering his vast talent.

Then there is the England snub. The county have many players in that position, including current in form Premier League star Dele Alli and international captain Wayne Rooney.

What does Big Sam know anyway? Two weeks ago Barkley tore his Palace side to shreds.

The media painted a picture of the poorly performing Barkley who was having no impact at Everton. But this was a mistruth. He was not getting the best rub of the green, but his performances were still good.

Koeman stuck by him and with Tom Davies now an understanding team-mate he is performing better than ever.

Barkley’s ‘poor’ form was something of a myth at Everton that he is now happily dispelling.
