Some Arsenal fans on social media have been reacting after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admitted that he almost signed for Tottenham.
The Arsenal captain said on Sky Sports’ YouTube channel that he almost joined the Gunners’ fiercest rivals.
“I was close to signing for Tottenham, but I don’t know what they did, so now I’d retire for sure. It was when I was at Saint-Etienne. I came here I went to the stadium as well at White Hart Lane, but the day later they never called back, so I was like ‘ok, no worries’,” Aubameyang said.
Aubameyang would, of course, eventually sign for Arsenal, and it’s fair to say he’s proven his worth with the Gunners.
Indeed, the Gabonese forward is a former Golden Boot winner and his goals have propelled Arsenal to silverware in the past.
Who knows where Spurs would be now if they’d signed Aubameyang, perhaps they’d have put up more of a fight in the Champions League final back in 2019, or maybe they’d have run Leicester City even closer in the title race back in 2016.
