West Ham were linked with Jordi Mboula – who has now signed with Monaco.
Jordi Mboula has left the Nou Camp
Last month West Ham United were linked with a stunning deal for Barcelona prodigy Jordi Mboula.
The Star reported that the Hammers made contact with the La Liga giants over the forward, who excelled in the UEFA Youth League last season.
It would have been a stunning coup, but West Ham have now missed out with Mboula clinching a move to AS Monaco, ESPN reported.
Monaco coach Leonardo Jardim has signed another gem
Mboula signed a five-year deal with Monaco meeting his 3 million Euro release clause, from which Barcelona have no buy-back option.
With some of Europe’s top teams hovering over Mboula, it would have been a big surprise if West Ham had won the race, and now their chances are gone.
Mboula was described by Marca earlier this year as ‘Barcelona’s great hope’, yet his path to first team football was blocked by the incredible attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
Monaco are the Ligue 1 champions and can offer Champions League football, while they have a proven track record of developing many of Europe’s top stars.
Perhaps West Ham never stood a chance, and they can now move on, hopefully to more realistic targets.
