Faye Carruthers has told talkSPORT that Arsenal new boy, Ben White, was one of the ‘most laid-back’ players she has come across.

The talkSPORT presenter worked at Euro 2020 this summer and interviewed a number of England players, including White before his Arsenal transfer.

Whilst White didn’t earn any minutes under Gareth Southgate, he would have still gained valuable experience at England’s best performance at a major tournament since 1966.

Carruthers was full of praise for White as an individual and how he comes across.

“He slotted in seamlessly bearing in mind that it was all last minute with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury,” said Carruthers. “He literally looked like he had belonged there and had been part of that group for years.

“He’s the most laid-back, cool, calm customer that I have interviewed in a long time, to the point where you almost want to point him with a stick and say ‘you alright there Ben’.

“I have heard players talk about this before, Harry Kane in particular, ‘don’t get too high and don’t get too low’ and he’s exactly that steady kind of character to the point where, we were talking off-air weren’t we, about his potential credentials as a captain in the future.

“Certainly, when I spoke to him, he was very mature, very down to earth and excited to be there.”

Well, if White’s cool and calm nature can be transferred onto the pitch then Arsenal have done well for the money they have put on the table.

Arsenal need someone to control and lead pressure situations at the back because if they don’t then Mikel Artera’s side won’t be taking any steps forward next season.

Instead, Arteta will be taking steps towards grabbing his P45 because he won’t be in the job too long if things go wrong.
