Rio Ferdinand praised reported West Ham target, Gerard Moreno, on Match of the Day for his performance for Spain on Saturday.

The 29-year-old was handed a start by Luis Enrique during his side’s 1-1 draw with Poland and Ferdinand thinks the man wanted by West Ham this summer was ‘the most effective’ on the pitch.

CalcioMercato have previously reported that West Ham could be a destination for Villarreal man this summer, as they are keen on his talents.

And this is what Ferdinand had to say about the player’s performance yesterday, for those interested West Ham supporters.

“I think the person I was talking about coming into the team, Moreno,” said Ferdinand.

“I thought he was the most effective player. In terms of driving forward at people at times or just having something little different to the other players.”

There’s no doubt that West Ham need more options upfront, this was needed at the start of the recently concluded campaign when they had Sebastian Haller on their books.

And also before they booked a place in the Europa League for next season.

Now that Haller is no longer at the London Stadium, following his departure in January, and the Hammers are now in Europe, it’s imperative that another number nine is brought in.

Michail Antonio was fantastic last season, but there will be some worry about how his body will cope with playing two times a week, so those in the boardroom need to take action.
