Tony Cascarino has written in The Times that Graham Potter’s Chelsea should make a move for Brentford striker Ivan Toney in the summer transfer window.

The former Chelsea player believes that Toney could be the missing piece in Graham Potter’s jigsaw.

The talkSPORT pundit has outlined what makes the striker so special, although he has outlined the off-pitch issues that could affect any potential transfer.

Chelsea urged to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney

Cascarino wrote: “Chelsea are so close to getting it right under Graham Potter. Their performance away to West Ham — particularly in the first 20 minutes — was much improved but they are still crying out for a striker. Ivan Toney could be the missing piece of the jigsaw.

“With runners off him such as Mykhailo Mudryk and João Félix and quality deliveries into the box, the Brentford forward would thrive at Chelsea.

“He is so strong in the air, loves to get in behind and has the confidence and swagger to succeed at a top club.

“The problem for potential suitors is the threat of a lengthy ban after being charged with more than 200 alleged breaches of betting rules.

“Should he be cleared or have served his punishment by the end of the season, I would expect him to command a huge transfer fee.”

Could a transfer happen?

If the off-pitch issues can be sorted, then, yes, Chelsea could be able to sign Ivan Toney from London and Premier League rivals Brentford in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are a global brand, and the 26-year-old striker could be tempted to move to Stamford Bridge.

It would be a step-up for the striker.

However, Brentford will not let Toney leave on the cheap.

You can rest assured that the Bees will demand a lot in transfer fees for the striker.

After all, Brentford are doing well in the Premier League at the moment and Toney is a brilliant striker.

The Englishman has scored 14 goals and given three assists in the Premier League for Brentford so far this season.

Last season, the 26-year-old scored 12 goals and provided five assists in the Premier League for the Bees.
