Mark Noble’s exasperated look after West Ham United’s 3-0 defeat to Southampton summed up the mood at the London Stadium perfectly.
After 4-2 defeats to both Watford and West Bromwich Albion, West Ham needed to get back to winning ways against Southampton on Sunday – but they were beaten even more comprehensively this time.
Charlie Austin’s first-half goal put Southampton in front, before Dusan Tadic and James Ward-Prowse both added goals to seal a 3-0 win for the Saints and pile the pressure on under-fire West Ham boss Slaven Bilic.
It’s now four Premier League defeats in a row and just one win so far this term for West Ham, as their move from Upton Park to the London Stadium has quickly turned from a dream into a nightmare.
Captain Noble, a lifelong Hammers fan, will be particularly gutted with West Ham’s recent form, and the look on his face told its own story as the final whistle blew on Sunday evening.
Noble wasn’t the only one though, as that disappointed expression was mirrored around the ground from fans, players and staff after another embarrassing defeat for the Hammers.
The likes of Adrian San Miguel, Cheikhou Kouyate and Simone Zaza all looked downbeat during and after the match, whilst fans grimaced and voted with their feet as empty seats were seen all around the stadium.
Manager Bilic cut a lonely figure on the touchline as he faced up to another defeat, and the expressions of everybody associated with West Ham summed up just how bad things are for the club right now.
