Manchester City head to Old Trafford for the first Manchester derby of the season, where the battle of blue and red will take centre stage yet again.

With the sub plot of Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola facing off again, it is set up to be one of the most compelling derbies since Vincent Kompany’s winner at the Etihad in 2012.

The Manchester derby has always been a fierce affair, but the stakes have been cranked even higher since City have became a force in English football, meaning that the match is not only a battle for Manchester supremacy, but for Premier League dominance too.

With all eyes on Manchester on Saturday, we look at the past five fixtures between United and City.

In the last meeting between the two sides, it took a goal from teenage sensation Marcus Rashford to split the two sides.

The 18-year-old was enjoying a glorious start to his Manchester United career, and it got even better when the local lad scored the winner against the enemy.

The striker raced past a sluggish Martin Demichelis and slotted the ball neatly past Joe Hart to put the away side in front, and ensured Louis Van Gaal’s side remained in the race for the top four.

The Manchester derby is normally a ferocious affair full of goals. This one wasn’t.

The two teams played out a drab 0-0 draw, with Nicolas Otamendi the star for Sergio Aguero-less City.

In a game that Manchester United had to win, they came up trumps to end their terrible run against their neighbours.

It looked as though it was going to be more blue dominance when Aguero put the away side in front eight minutes in, but Ashley Young brought united level six minutes later.

Marouane Fellaini gave United the lead, with Juan Mata and Chris Smalling stretching the reds’ lead in the second half.

Aguero grabbed a second late on, but it was nothing more than a consolation.

Manchester City's Sergio Aguero

Another Manchester derby, another goal for Aguero.

The Argentinian striker’s sublime record in Manchester derbies was enough to separate the teams at the Etihad, with Chris Smalling giving Manuel Pellegrini’s side a helping hand after picking up two first half yellow cards and leaving United with 10 men.

Aguero’s goal was his fifth in six games against United.

There was no Aguero for City, but they were still able to put three past David de Gea at Old Trafford.

The eventual Premier League champions took the lead within a minute through Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian striker grabbed a second in the second half, with Yaya Toure making it a route in the 90th minute on an embarrassing night at the theatre of dreams for David Moyes.
