Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, former Liverpool defender Mark Wright has been discussing Liverpool’s young stars, namely Curtis Jones.
Jones burst onto the scene last season with a number of incredible performances in both the Premier League and the Champions League, but we haven’t seen him anywhere near as much this term thus far.
Wright believes that Jones has fallen down the pecking order because Klopp believes he’s got a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
What’s been said?
Wright gave his view on Jones.
“He leaves no stone unturned, he knows who is coming through. Look at Curtis Jones who came through last season and did so well. Now he’s on the fringe again and it’s probably because Curtis has a bit of a ‘here I am’ a bit of a swagger. The manager won’t like that. He’ll say ‘know your place, this is about the team’ and he’s been benched a little bit because of those reasons I believe, and that’s what we all believe.” Wright said.

Klopp knows best
If Wright is correct about Jones then Klopp is making the right decision in not throwing him in at the deep end.
Jones is a supreme talent and to be honest, he has every right to be a bit cocky. After all, which 20-year-old wouldn’t be after such a fantastic debut season?
However, football is a team sport, and there’s no room for ego in any team, let alone a Jurgen Klopp side.
Jones is under the best manager and in the best environment to mature into a fantastic footballer, and we fully expect him to be a star of the future.
