Kaveh Solhekol has claimed that there is ‘no chance’ Tottenham Hotspur will be able to secure the transfer of Dan James from Leeds United this summer, as he told Sky Sports News.

The Sky reporter added Leeds United don’t want James to leave, despite interest from Tottenham, who did the bulk of their transfer deals early on this summer.

Last summer, Leeds paid Manchester United £25 million for James’ talents (BBC Sport), but for large parts of the season, he had to play as a false number nine because of Patrick Bamford’s injury woes.

That didn’t help the 24-year-old’s cause because, added with Bamford, Kalvin Phillips was also on the sidelines, as well as club captain, Liam Cooper.

With the new Premier League season underway, James will be hoping for a much better campaign, in his preferred position, that’s if he stays in Yorkshire.

Well, transfer expert Solhekol thinks James will stay put, as he put this possible transfer deal before next week’s deadline in the ‘unlikely file’.

“I think it’s one of those you have to put in the unlikely file for Tottenham,” said Solhekol. “I think there has been some interest. But the latest information we have is that there is no chance of that deal happening, at the moment.

“I don’t think Leeds United would want to let Dan James go, that’s why I think it’s unlikely to happen.”

BAD NEWS FOR TOTTENHAM?

When Spurs fans were looking forward to the players they were going to bring in under Antonio Conte, a player like James wouldn’t have been top of their list, perhaps not even in the middle.

But now that his name has been thrown about, it will be interesting to see if Spurs fans would be keen to see the Wales international in their colours.

There’s no way he is a certain starter, more so a squad player, and with Champions League football returning to north London, then that depth is more than needed.

In truth, whilst the lure of Champions League football, playing alongside a player like Harry Kane, being coached by Conte, is perhaps too good to turn down, but, during World Cup year, it’s best James stays put at Elland Road.
