Rory McIlroy is arguably the biggest active star in the game right now.
McIlroy’s legacy in the game is already set in stone, after he completed the career Grand Slam at Augusta National in 2025.
The 37-year-old Northern Irishman then defended his Masters title this year to move his major championship tally up to six.
Now Rory McIlroy has true greatness in his sights.

McIlroy is one of the most outspoken players in the game and he is unquestionably one of the most popular as well.
The six-time major champion is one of the most wealthy sports stars in the world, but he actually came from humble beginnings.
McIlroy’s parents both worked extra jobs to give their son a chance to achieve his dreams, and he has certainly paid back their faith and hard work.
The last time Rory McIlroy paid money to play a round of golf
Obviously McIlroy can go anywhere in the world and play a round of golf whenever he wants now.
However, that wasn’t always the case.
Before he was such a big star, the Northern Irishman had to pay his way when it came to playing rounds of golf.
As reported by Golf Digest, McIlroy last paid for a round of golf way back in 2005, when he was just 16 years old.

The world number two played Valderrama in Spain 21 years ago and had to part ways with $290 for the privilege.
Isn’t it funny how those who can afford to pay ridiculous amounts of money for certain things often get them for free!
Golf is an incredibly expensive sport to get involved in now, so let’s take a look at some of the most ludicrously priced golf courses in the United States.
America’s five most expensive golf courses
Coming in at number five is Kiawah Island. The links style course located in South Carolina will set you back $650 if you want to play a round of golf there.
Next up on the list is Pebble Beach. One of the most famous golf courses in the world, it will cost you $675 to play.
Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas is number three on the list, with an 18-hole price set at $750.
TPC Sawgrass comes in at number two, with an 18-hole round priced at $900.
And finally, number one on the list is Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. Playing a round there will set you back a whopping $1250!
The funny thing is that Rory McIlroy probably wouldn’t have to pay anything to play any of those golf courses!
