All in all, Wolves can’t be too unhappy with how the January transfer window has gone. They’ve managed to get the striker they were desperate for and they’ve not lost any key players.
However, we can’t help but feel that they made a massive error at the beginning of the month, and the last 24 hours have perfectly highlighted just how wrong Wolves got it.
The Midlands club needed a striker heading into January, that wasn’t a point that needed debating after Raul Jimenez went down injured, and while Willian Jose has now been brought in on loan, their original plan was to bring Patrick Cutrone back to the club.
However, after failing to score a single goal this season for Fiorentina during his loan spell, questions were raised about whether or not this was the right decision.
Three league appearances and 23 minutes of football later, Wolves have seemingly decided that this was the wrong call, as Cutrone is now in talks with Valencia over a move away from Molineux.
Bringing back Cutrone seemed to be the wrong call at the time, and now Wolves have seemingly accepted that, as he’s reportedly set to leave.

However, what makes it even worse is the fact that Wolves have a striker out on loan who would have been a much better option.
Indeed, Rafa Mir has been in good form this season for Huesca in La Liga, and he’s once again shown just how good he is, netting a hat trick on Friday evening as beat Real Valladolid 3-1.
The fact that Mir has scored a hat trick on the same day Cutrone began negotiating his departure from Wolves is painfully ironic, but it goes to show just how wrong Wolves initially got it with their strikers.
Mir should have been the one being recalled rather than Cutrone, and perhaps if that had happened, the Midlands outfit wouldn’t have dropped points against the likes of West Brom, Everton and Brighton.
Hopefully, Willian Jose can step up and help erase this strange short spell at Molineux from all of our memories.
