Norwich City midfielder Jonny Howson has been linked with Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

Leeds United are interested in signing Jonny Howson from Championship rivals Norwich City in the summer transfer window, according to The Mirror.

It has been reported that the Canaries want £5 million as transfer fee in order to part company with the 29-year-old midfielder.

Howson is a former Leeds player. The former England Under-21 international came through the West Yorkshire club’s youth academy and played for the first team from 2006 until January 2012.

The midfielder then left Norwich. At the time, Howson gave an extensive interview to The Yorkshire Evening Post, explaining his decision to swap Elland Road for Carrow Road.

“Decision-wise, this is the biggest decision I’ve had to make in my life,” Howson told The Yorkshire Evening Post in January 2012. “The reason is Premier League.

“I am going to a very good club with good support, but at the same time, I know I am leaving a club I’ve loved from being such a young boy. That’s not going to change.

“The hardest thing was leaving somewhere I’ve been from six or seven years of age and it’s been hard.

“Leeds has been a massive part of my life, but this is a great chance for me. This is the sort of chance that doesn’t come around that often and it’s a chance I feel I have to take while it’s there.”

Many Leeds fans were not happy at the time, but the Elland Road faithful should try to understand the reason why Howson had to leave.

The 29-year-old clearly loves Leeds, and the Whites’ fans should welcome him back with open arms if he returns in the summer transfer window.

Howson left Leeds to play in the Premier League and to further his career, and the Elland Road faithful should understand that.
