The former Gers captain had a woeful relationship with the Frenchman.

Rangers’ new boss Pedro Caixinha is looking to bring in a new assistant to help him at Ibrox, one with connections to the Glasgow club. Rangers had a bad experience with their last foreign coach, French manager Paul Le Guen, so are keen to add a home element to the coaching staff.

One name that has been linked with the role is Barry Ferguson.

Given the role he played in the controversial stay of Le Guen at Ibrox there is a degree of irony here. Ferguson, not averse to the odd controversy in his career, had a massive fall out with Le Guen whilst at Rangers – even seeing himself stripped of the captaincy by the Frenchman.

It was of course a tumultuous stage in Rangers’ history and one which did not paint Le Guen or Ferguson in a good light.

Now the former Gers captain may be about to be appointed by the club’s first foreign manager since, in a bid to settle things at the club in the new transition.

Undoubtedly, there is a bitter sense of irony involved here.
