The Gers manager wants his players to enjoy a well-earned rest.
Rangers manager Mark Warburton has claimed that the international break has come at just the right time for his hard-working Gers side.
Warburton’s men face Queen of the South in eleven days time and with the majority of the squad free of international commitments, the onus will be on a period of rest and recovery over the coming week.
“It’s come at a really good time I think,” said Warburton, in an interview with Rangers TV.
“We are a quarter of the way through the season so we are 25 per cent in, we have played everyone now, it’s a good natural break for us and I think the boys have earned it.”
“We have worked really hard from the first day of pre-season, it’s been pretty relentless, and I’m delighted with the application.
“They’ve earned this reward now so we’ll work hard Tuesday and Wednesday this week, there is no doubt about that, and from Monday next week everything is geared towards the next home fixture,” he added.
The break will provide a period of welcome tranquillity for the ex-Brentford boss to assess his start to life at Ibrox – and it’s been nothing short of fantastic.
Warburton has already achieved a unity, an optimism and an identity in his few short months at the club and has his squad playing in a style the Gers faithful had long forgotten.
He boasts an almost perfect record – with the only blip coming against top flight St. Johnstone in the League Cup – but will be eagerly anticipating the greater challenges ahead.
Rangers will stroll to the Championship title – barring a catastrophe – and the real test of Warburton and his squad will be their adjustment to higher quality opposition week in, week out.
They failed their first test against SPL opposition but with two transfer windows between now and their return to the top flight, Warburton has all the opportunity he needs to get his group in order.
