When he signed for United in 2015 from PSV, he was viewed to have ‘made it’, and was billed as the next big star, the Red Devils’ answer to Eden Hazard, while taking the iconic number seven shirt.

So he sent speculation into overdrive in June 2015 when he was pictured alongside his pal Romelu Lukaku, on holiday together.
Of course there was nothing in it at the time, but that did not stop the tabloids speculating.
The insinuation was clear, that the friendship between the pair could see the Belgian arrive at Old Trafford.

18 months on, and the pair could be set to link up as teammates for the very first time – but the plot twist is that it could be as Everton teammates instead of Manchester United, with SkySports reporting the Toffees’ confirmed interest.
This is due to Depay failing to hold down at place in the starting line up at Old Trafford, and potentially moving on in January.
Providing of course United do not push for a blockbuster swap deal, the dream partnership United fans may have ambitiously salivated over looks set to develop at Goodison Park.
