Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, journalist Duncan Castles has shared an update on Celtic’s pursuit of a new striker.

It had been thought that Celtic would sign Giorgos Giakoumakis, but after it was reported that this deal had fallen through, they’ve had to set their sights on some other options.

Castles says the Bhoys are now likely to go for a striker within the Scottish League, naming Hibernian’s Kevin Nisbet as a player they have an interest in.

What’s been said?

Castles shared what he knows about Celtic’s new striker pursuit.

“Celtic seemed to think they had the deal secured, they expected the player to come and take a medical in Belgium, but as of yet, they’ve failed to significantly improve their offer to the extent that Giakoumakis would accept it.

“At present it looks like they’ll leave it, because the information is that they’re going to move onto another target, most likely someone within the Scottish League with Kevin Nisbet at Hibernian being a player they have an interest in.

Natural goalscorer

Nisbet may not be proven at the very top level, but he is a natural goalscorer.

Whether it’s at League One, Championship or Premiership level, Nisbet has consistently been able to find the back of the net, and that’s all you need from a striker.

Look, Celtic are always going to be a dominant force in Scotland, and if they create chances for Nisbet, he’ll put them into the back of the net.

This could be a very clever signing from the Glasgow outfit.
