Carlos Alcaraz was not expecting to receive this message after his first Wimbledon triumph.

Alcaraz is a six-time Grand Slam champion already at just 22 years old, with his latest victory coming at the 2025 US Open.

Two of Alcaraz’s six major titles have come at Wimbledon, having won the grass court major in 2023 and 2024.

After beating Novak Djokovic in the 2023 final, Alcaraz received many messages of support including from a Hollywood actor.

Carlos Alcaraz said he was ‘most surprised’ by Will Smith’s message after winning Wimbledon

Djokovic had won the last four editions of Wimbledon before Alcaraz beat him in a thrilling five set final in 2023.

As well as being congratulated by tennis players including Rafael Nadal, Alcaraz also received messages from people outside of tennis.

This includes Hollywood actor Will Smith, and Alcaraz told AS at the time that this was the message that left him the ‘most surprised’.

“Every single one has made me very happy,” said Alcaraz. “It’s always nice when people have a reason to congratulate you on something. But maybe I was most surprised when Will Smith congratulated me. I thought, ‘Wow! You really have come a long way. Will Smith has congratulated you, that’s quite something.’

“And it’s always extremely special to be congratulated by Rafa, who’s one of my idols. Fernando Alonso, too; I have so much admiration for him. And there are so many more people; I’ve really been bowled over. If I start going through everyone who has congratulated me, we’ll be here for a while – and I don’t want to leave anyone out!”

What Jannik Sinner said he would want Will Smith to do

It is not just Alcaraz who has a small connection to Smith, with his biggest rival Jannik Sinner also having a link to the actor.

When speaking at the Six Kings Slam in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, earlier this year, Sinner was asked who he would want to play himself in a movie about his life.

Sinner responded by saying, “Will Smith! Why not?”

Smith then weighed into the conversation himself, by saying, “I’m in!!!!!!!!!”, with his face over an image of Sinner holding the Wimbledon trophy.

It would not be the first time that Smith has played a role in a tennis movie, having won an Oscar for his role in King Richard, which was about the story of Serena and Venus Williams’ career.
