Kevin Campbell has claimed that Liverpool and Manchester United could ‘definitely’ be purchased by Middle Eastern buyers, added with Manchester City and Newcastle United, which would really rock the Premier League, as he told the Highbury Squad.
Out of utter coincidence, both Liverpool and Manchester United, the two biggest clubs in English football, are up for sale by their respective American-run ownerships – Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and the Glazers – and that, after their failed punt at the European Super League.
Manchester City have taken the Premier League by storm for well over a decade now, largely thanks to the Abu Dhabi-based group running their ship, whilst Newcastle United’s Saudi-led ownership will be hoping to follow suit in the coming years after taking charge in 2021.
There is serious money in the Premier League, and that’s why most of the best managers and players in the world are showcasing their talent on English football’s biggest stage.
But that would go up a few notches if the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United are purchased for the billions and billions that are being talked about.
Former Arsenal striker Campbell shared his thoughts on the two English giants changing hands and how their current owners have probably tested the waters regarding a possible sale.
“So, maybe, they (the owners) have judged the market and gone ‘do you know what we can actually make a killing here’,” said Campbell. “Shall we put a feeler out and see what we would be worth? What’s come back has made the eyes goggle a bit, with both. That sort of money is huge.
“FSG, I think that’s too much money to turn down. Man United and Glazers, that’s too much money to turn down. Where the clubs are, then new owners would come in and think ‘if I put this in then we can kick on again’ because the people we are talking about have got the deepest, deepest of pockets. I don’t think it’s anything to do with Super League.
On if Man United and Liverpool can have owners like Man City and Newcastle: “Here’s the funny thing, some people are against that ownership (Newcastle’s). Let’s see who becomes owners of Liverpool and Manchester United. Let’s have a little look!
“It could (Middle Eastern owners). It could definitely be. These are the guys with the money, at the end of the day, if you put a price on it and people turn up and say ‘I will pay the price’, then you are going to entertain them, aren’t you?!”

Man City are still dominating, and with Pep Guardiola signing a new contract, it doesn’t look like there is any stopping them.
But they could have an even tougher fight on their hands now. Arsenal are looking like their old selves again after well over a decade and are sitting top of the Premier League table.
Newcastle United are hoping to join the elite with the power they now have behind them, whilst Man United are hoping a change of ownership can mean a change of fortune out on the pitch.
And whilst Liverpool have been far more successful than Arsenal, Man United and Newcastle in recent years, perhaps Jurgen Klopp will become more dangerous if you add financial muscle to what he has achieved since moving to Merseyside.
