Speaking on the Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, Micah Richards has claimed that Harry Kane’s performance against Manchester City earlier this year was the best number nine performance he’s ever seen in the Premier League.
Spurs beat Man City 3-2 back in February, and it’s fair to say that Kane was absolutely electric that day, netting twice at the Etihad – including a 95th minute winner.
Kane was brilliant against City, and according to Richards, it was the single greatest number nine performance in Premier League history.
What’s been said?
Richards spoke about Kane’s showing against City.
“Did you see his performance against Manchester City the other week?” Micah Richards said.
“I think that’s one of the best centre-forward displays I’ve seen,” Gary Lineker added.
“That’s the greatest number nine performance I’ve seen in the Premier League, against City in their own backyard,” Richards said.

Recency bias
We can’t help but think that there is an element of recency bias having an effect here.
Yes, Kane was fantastic against City, but to call it the best number nine performance ever is something of a stretch.
We’ve seen players score 5 goals in a game before, we’ve seen hat-tricks in big derbies and we may have even seen better showings from Kane – just look at his performance against Chelsea in 2015.
This is a massive claim from Richards, and it’s not one we can get on board with.
