Featuring the stars of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Norwich City, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
Luis Suarez: Liverpool vs Stoke
The Uruguayan’s goal in the Carling Cup last night was a moment of genius. A cheeky nutmeg followed by a curling strike over the keeper into the far corner helped make it a night to remember for Liverpool fans.
Edin Dzeko: Manchester United vs Manchester City
This clinical strike is on this list for the pass more than the goal itself. David Silva cued the ball up and volleyed it 35 yards into the path of the Bosnian, who made the scoreline an incredible 6-1.
Mario Balotelli: Manchester City vs Aston Villa
The unpredictable livewire lived up to his reputation by scoring a spectacular bicycle kick. It was scored from within a crowded box from a corner, making it even more tricky to execute, Shay Given in goal had no chance.
Grant Holt: Norwich City vs Liverpool
The Norwich forward’s equaliser was a special moment for Canaries fans. The ball was floated in from the right by Anthony Pilkington, for Holt to come charging in smashing a bullet header into the Liverpool net.
Danny Welbeck: Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur
The second of Welbeck’s strikes in this match, the sublime quality of this goal owes to the cheeky backheel by Anderson to open up space for the striker, leaving the Tottenham defence floundering.
Sergio Aguero: Manchester City vs Swansea
If ever a goal heralded the arrival of a superstar on our shores, this was it. A wonderstrike from 30 yards dipping and zipping into the bottom corner of Swansea’s goal. He had already scored one and made an assist after coming off the bench and this goal crowned a new talisman.
Sebastien Larsson: Sunderland vs Arsenal
Kids take note, this is a picture perfect example of how to take a free-kick. Almost identical to a David Beckham special of yesteryear, the Swede curled it over the wall and into the top corner, giving Arsenal’s goalkeeper no chance at all.
Nani: Manchester United vs Manchester City
This seems like a long time ago in the context of last weekend, but Nani’s equaliser in the Community Shield was a terrific goal. Lots of quick passing and movement from Tom Cleverley and Wayne Rooney played in Nani who clipped the ball over Joe Hart for a goal reminiscent of Barcelona.
Kyle Walker: Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal
What better way for a youngster to remember his first north London derby. With the game poised at 1-1, enter Kyle Walker, who struck from at least 25 yards out into the far corner. Perhaps Szczsney could have done better, but the pace and swerve of the strike beat him hands down.
Daniel Sturridge: Chelsea vs Sunderland
If Pele had scored this goal in 1970 it would still be being talked about now. Sturridge crowned his first goal of the season, with a cheeky backheel to confuse Sunderland’s goalkeeper as he ran across him. It was executed perfectly, and was a timely reminder of the youngster’s promising talent.
Luka Modric: Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool
Tottenham fans, we’ve heard you, we’ve watched it again and we agree. What a screamer.
Have we missed any out? Do you agree with our selections? Leave a comment…
