Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos was rewarded for an outstanding season at Ibrox.
In comments reported by The Scottish Sun, James Rodriguez has suggested that Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos will be one of the players that helps shape the future of football in Colombia after the Gers star earned his second cap for his country.
Morelos has been sensational for Steven Gerrard’s side this term, scoring 29 goals in all competitions. He made his international debut earlier in the campaign, and was given the chance to earn his second cap this week.
The youngster played the final four minutes of the 1-0 win against Japan. Despite spending little time on the pitch, he still managed to provide glimpses of his quality. And after the game, he was lauded by one of the country’s most exciting players for the last few years.
“Players such as Alfredo Morelos, who can be the future of football in our country,” James said, as reported by The Scottish Sun. “He has a lot of talent and has all the qualities needed to be a top player for us.
“Alfredo is young, has had a great season and is a top striker. He was called up ahead of more experienced strikers so that tells you that our manager Carlos Queiroz rates him very highly.”
Unfortunately for Rangers, the accolades and plaudits coming Morelos’ way will surely only make it more difficult for the Gers to hold onto him in the future as the interest in him will only grow.
Of course, comments like James’ also mean that Morelos’ value increases. Rangers are certainly not going to struggle to demand a marquee fee for their talisman when the time does come to sell him, especially with players who cost £63 million (via Guardian) praising him.
But right now, those comments will probably do Morelos the world of good as he looks to end the season on a high at Rangers. He now has an international spot to protect, and that can only be good news for Gerrard and the Ibrox faithful.
