Andoni Iraola, who has been speculated with becoming the next Leeds United manager for ages has given his two cents on the offer he received from the club.

As recently as on Wednesday, it was reported that Rayo Vallecano were lining up replacements for the 40-year-old, who could still perhaps head to Leeds next season.

With the Athletic reporting in early March that Leeds United could renew their efforts to appoint Andoni Iraola as their new manager in the summer, he has given his say on the initial approach.

Considering Rayo finished 12th last season in La Liga, the fact that they are sitting in 8th place this campaign presents a huge improvement.

With question marks over whether Javi Gracia is best-placed to lead the club forward in the future, it seems like Leeds could be in the market to bring in a new head coach ahead of next season.

Speaking to MARCA, Andoni Iraola gave his thoughts on initially snubbing the Leeds United manager job and instead, staying in Spain.

“When you are in a team, with a contract, with games ahead and your objectives, you are not thinking about other situations.”

“It is something that surprises you, but it is something that we already talked about in its day and it did not last very long. From there, we continue working the same.”

“I don’t know if I will have that possibility [of managing in the Premier League]. Talking about the future is very complicated, but I do believe that this is where the money is. Sadly, in football, the best players go where the money is.”

It seems like Andoni Iraola is resigned to the fact that the English top-flight is the zenith of club football, opening the door to potentially becoming the next Leeds United manager.
