Newcastle United’s season has gone downhill since Alan Pardew left to join Crystal Palace.

Newcastle United’s season has taken a turn for the worse since Alan Pardew departed, with John Carver failing to have the desired impact during his time in charge at St. James’ Park so far.

Pardew left Newcastle at the start of the calendar year to join Crystal Palace and his successor has failed to push the squad on to new heights.

Carver has overseen just one league victory during his time in charge of the Magpies and there are genuine concerns that they still may not be able to avoid the drop.

Newcastle are winless in February and the way they surrendered so meekly in a 5-0 defeat against Manchester City last weekend suggests there is a lack of fight in their squad.

It has been a particularly worrying stage for the side and although the majority of supporters had wanted Pardew out, his departure seems to have thrown their season into turmoil.

Newcastle may have proven harder to take shots against during Carver’s initial time in charge, but they are still conceding an average of two goals per game and their performances have got worse in most other areas.

The Magpies have become more direct in their approach and it seems to have limited their attacking threat, whilst they are also not as combative – with their tackling statistics not as strong.

It is a worrying deterioration and unless Carver finds a way to enhance the quality of the football he gets his Newcastle side playing it could be a nervy end to the season for the side.
