Clint Dempsey
If this list did not include Dempsey, we might as well go home now. The American is in unstoppable form, bagging two hat-tricks since the start of the year, in the FA Cup against Charlton, and in the league against Newcastle. Last night he notched again at home to West Brom, and with Bobby Zamora gone, he will have to take on even more responsibility. Only six players have scored more goals than him all season.
Antonio Valencia
Antonio Valencia has been on fire of late. It was his contribution which won Manchester United the match at the Emirates a fortnight ago, and he has been a consistent provider of goals. With Ashley Young out injured since December it was crucial that he stepped up, and the winger has not disappointed, most recently winning a penalty against Stoke in midweek.
Stephane Sessegnon
The midfielder has been outstanding at Sunderland since Martin O’Neill took over. His goal against Norwich last night was top class, starting the move with a cheeky nutmeg and finishing it with a diving header. There were rumours before Steve Bruce left that he could be seeking a return to France, there is no danger of Sunderland letting him go anywhere while this form continues.
Robin van Persie
The Dutchman has been the model of consistency for more than a year now. He was unlucky against Bolton last night, hitting the woodwork on more than one occasion and another night he would have had a hat-trick. He is currently the Premier League’s top scorer, and we don’t see that changing at all between now and the end of the season.
Gareth Bale
The Welshman took a few weeks to get going this year, but nobody can dispute his form in recent months has been stunning. He has actually played better in the Premier League than he did last year, and has scored nine league goals so far including two against Wigan on Tuesday.
