Like in any other sport, the world’s top golfers are as much a brand to themselves as they are to their relative tours they compete on.
While golf might seem like a more niche sport to some, it does possess some of the biggest names in all of sport.
Indeed, you’d be hard-pressed to go anywhere in the world and not find someone who hasn’t heard of Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy.
But when it comes to the modern day golfer, just who wins out in terms of popularity over on social media and is this one battle that Woods cannot win?
With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at the top five most followed golfers on Instagram.

The top five most followed golfers on Instagram in 2025
A decade ago, if Instagram existed in its current form, there would be no question that Tiger Woods would be the main man in golf.
However, in 2025, that title goes to someone else, and it’s not even a PGA Tour player.
With over 4.3m followers, it is Bryson DeChambeau who reigns supreme at the top of the most followed golfers. His YouTube exploits have taken him to another level and he now sits top of the pile.
Below DeChambeau, things get a bit closer but this is where Woods comes in, with 3.7m to Rory McIlroy’s 3.6m in third place.
From there, we dip into the 2m mark and here is where things get really tight. However, it is Jordan Spieth with 1.9m who comes out in fourth, while his good friend Justin Thomas sits just behind him on 1.8m.
Both sit just ahead of current world number one, Scottie Scheffler.
Honourable mentions then follow for players like Phil Mickelson (1.3m) and Dustin Johnson (1.2m).
The most followed sports stars in the world
While golfers can be big marketing tools, they pale in comparison compared to some of the world’s biggest stars from other sports.
Leo Messi, for example, has over 500m followers, while Cristiano Ronaldo trumps him with over 660m.
Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has a whopping 274m followers, while Lebron James of NBA fame has north of 150m all to himself.
So, while golf can be lucrative and these guys are popular, they can feel almost lucky in a way that they don’t have quite as many eyes on them as some of these star names.
