Everton have sacked manager Ronald Koeman – and David Moyes has already been linked with a return.
Everton have parted company with manager Ronald Koeman today, bringing the Dutchman’s 16-month reign to an end after a dismal start to the season.
Koeman, who was lured from Southampton in 2016, enjoyed a strong first season at Goodison Park last term, and whilst he lost Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United over the summer, he was backed with signings such as Jordan Pickford, Michael Keane, Davy Klaassen, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wayne Rooney.
Despite the optimism over those signings, Everton’s season has been a nightmare; five defeats in nine Premier League games and just one point from three Europa League outings have seen Koeman lose his job, with Sunday’s 5-2 home defeat to Arsenal proving to be his final game in charge of the club.

Everton parted ways with Koeman earlier today, and the search is now on for his replacement, with one former Toffees boss already touted in a bizarre link.
The Mirror reported on Sunday that Everton were eyeing up a shock move to bring David Moyes back to the club, over four years since he left Goodison Park in favour of Manchester United.
Moyes, 54, won 42% of his games in charge of the Toffees during an 11-year stint with the club, but his career has nosedived since then, having lasted just eight months at Manchester United and a year at Real Sociedad, before suffering relegation from the Premier League with Sunderland last season.
Rumours of an Everton return for Moyes has unsurprisingly sparked reactions from Everton fans, with many pleading the club to appoint anybody else after his acrimonious exit in 2013.
Fans on Twitter suggested that they would cry or even throw their season tickets into the River Mersey if Moyes comes back, with supporters claiming it would be a step backwards and the final nail in the coffin for Everton after a dismal start to the season – though one fan did point out that Moyes had little money to spend in his first spell as manager, and he could have another crack at the job with the financial backing of Farhad Moshiri.
