The fear in Spain driving Real’s £200m pursuit of Harry Kane

Real Madrid are keen on Tottenham’s Harry Kane – but this is driven by fears over Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid have set their eyes on Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, with The Times reporting they would love to sign the prolific forward.

Spurs reportedly want more than £200 million to even consider selling, and even then would be unlikely to accept.

Real Madrid are a tough team to resist for any player – and their desire to sign Kane is being driven by their fears over Karim Benzema.

Benzema was one of Real’s big signings back in 2009, and has had a successful career at the Spanish giants – winning three Champions League medals.

But there is a fear that he may be finished as an elite striker.

He has scored only once this season in four La Liga appearances, and missed time with a hamstring injury.

Benzema turns 30 in December, and last season contributed only 11 La Liga goals in 29 appearances.

Kane by comparison scored 29 goals in 30 appearances for Tottenham, and is just 24-years-old.

Real need to find a replacement for Benzema, and missed their opportunity in the summer when they were beaten to the signature of Kylian Mbappe to PSG.

The reality is Real need another striker, and until they sign one, links to Kane will persist. Spurs just need to hold off until they do.
