Joe Cole has stated that the ‘fans will turn’ if former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers joined Manchester United, as he told the All to Play for Podcast.

Not many in their time would have donned both Liverpool and Manchester United colours, but it’s something that has been now well-documented that a certain Leicester City boss could do.

With pressure mounting on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford, there are suggestions that the powers that be at Man United could turn to Rodgers if they decide to sack the treble-winning striker.

Rodgers, who was sacked by Liverpool in 2015, has tried to distance himself from the rumours and suggested that it is ‘disrespectful’ to the man currently holding the keys to that role, as he told Sky Sports.

Cole would have been at Chelsea when Rodgers was in the London club’s ranks as a youth coach, as he also donned the colours of Liverpool during his playing days and he thinks it’s a big no-no for him to step foot into the job in Manchester.

“Brendan right, you can’t manage Liverpool,” said Cole. “And then go to Manchester United.

“You can’t. I just can’t see it. Disaster. The fans will turn against him straightaway. It will be ‘you scouse this and you scouse that’.”

Given how deflated Man United supporters feel right now, they would probably take a manager of Rodgers’ ilk over Solskjaer.

There’s no doubt that the Northern Irishman is a better coach than the former striker, but it’s still pretty big for such a situation to be pushed forward with.

It does seem as though ever since Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool, he has been trying to forge a path whereby he wants to coach one of those elite teams once more.

Of course, Man United tick that box as big as anyone, and if they did come knocking for Rodgers, then it begs the question as to how he turns that down because it’s not like he is a Liverpool legend.

Plus, at the end of the day, they did sack him.
