Manchester United player Wayne Rooney has not yet had a shot on target in the Premier League this year.
Manchester United are a peculiar beast right now. Despite possessing some of the best attacking talent in world football they are struggling to dominate games and have scored just eight goals in their last six Premier League games.
For a side with Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao, Robin van Persie, Juan Mata, Adnan Januzaj and Wayne Rooney at their disposal, that is simply not good enough. And a quick look at the latter’s recent impact in terms of goal attempts paints a worrying picture.
Rooney has played 450 minutes of top-flight football since the turn of the year, but the United captain is yet to have a single shot on target in 2015.
| Shots | Shots on Target | On-target Shooting Accuracy | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wayne Rooney | 4 | 0 | 0% | 450 |
That he has only managed four goal attempts in that time is alarming enough; but that none of them have found the target shows just how little threat he offers when played in midfield – as he has been for most of this campaign.
Rooney is a forward, a goal-scorer, a catalyst, but in this United side he looks well below his best and manager Louis van Gaal needs to re-think things or risk missing out on a Champions League place next season – the bare minimum requirement following his appointment.
