Sunderland striker Fabio Borini has worryingly not had a shot on target in the Premier League since January 17th 2015, when he was playing for Liverpool against Aston Villa.
Borini tested Brad Guzan in Liverpool’s game against Villa last term, but he has carried virtually no goalscoring threat since.
| Team | Match | Ontarget Scoring Att | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fabio Borini | Liverpool | Aston Villa vs Liverpool | 1 | 1 | 71 |
| Fabio Borini | Liverpool | Liverpool vs Newcastle | 0 | 1 | 32 |
| Fabio Borini | Liverpool | West Brom vs Liverpool | 0 | 1 | 15 |
| Fabio Borini | Sunderland | West Brom vs Sunderland | 0 | 1 | 90 |
| Fabio Borini | Sunderland | Sunderland vs West Ham | 0 | 1 | 90 |
| Fabio Borini | Sunderland | Bournemouth vs Sunderland | 0 | 1 | 72 |
| Fabio Borini | Sunderland | Man Utd vs Sunderland | 0 | 1 | 90 |
| Fabio Borini | Sunderland | Sunderland vs Tottenham | 0 | 1 | 74 |
That is very concerning for Sunderland, as he was brought in by the club this summer to end their goalscoring worries.
The Black Cats have looked blunt in attack for the last two seasons, and there were hopes that Borini would make them a much more threatening outfit.
However, in the Italian’s first five appearances, he has still not even managed to test an opposition goalkeeper, with his morale visibly low.
Borini did manage to score seven times in 32 appearances on a loan spell at the Stadium of Light in the 2013/14 season, but he seems a long way away from that form now.
Sam Allardyce, therefore, has a task at restoring the former Chelsea striker’s confidence quickly, to ensure that his goalscoring drought does not continue for too much longer.
