Rafael Nadal finally called an end to his legendary career in 2024.
Nadal retired at the Davis Cup last year, representing Spain in his final match, which was a defeat to Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands.
The Spaniard, who won 22 Grand Slam titles and a record 14 French Open crowns, received a tribute ceremony at this season’s Roland Garros, at which his longtime rivals Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray were in attendance.
His retirement sent shockwaves through the sports world, with big names from all walks of life taking to social media to congratulate him.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the five-time major champion delivered a heartwarming message to Nadal.
He said: “From watching you win your first grand slam in 2005 to watching you win your last in 2022, you have been a hero of mine and an inspiration to how I approach my own career.
“You will be so missed and tennis won’t be the same without you. Congratulations on one of the finest sporting careers of all time.
“See you on the course soon! Your friend, Rory.”

Nadal won 92 tour-level titles over the course of his career, the last of which came during the 2022 ATP season.
He secured his final crown at Roland Garros that year, which marked his record-extending 14th trophy on the clay courts of Paris.
Nadal beat Felix Auger-Aliassime, Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic en route to the final, where he met Casper Ruud.
Despite the Norwegian’s impressive form at Roland Garros, Nadal dominated Ruud in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, 6-0.
