The winger has returned to parent club Sunderland after several poor showings at Leeds.
There was plenty of attention surrounding Will Buckley’s loan move from Sunderland to Leeds United.
Leeds had wanted him for some time and there was relief when the winger finally joined from the Black Cats.
But the reality of the 26-year-old’s spell away from Sunderland far from lived up to its billing. Buckley has now been recalled from Leeds and you wouldn’t have noticed he spent any time at Elland Road.
| Minutes Played | Chances Created | Accurate Passes | Final-Third Passes | Touches | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Giuseppe Bellusci | 541 | 1 | 136 | 29 | 295 | 7 |
| Scott Wootton | 522 | 2 | 130 | 50 | 367 | 7 |
| Jordan Botaka | 277 | 4 | 91 | 33 | 199 | 7 |
| William Buckley | 121 | 0 | 25 | 9 | 66 | 4 |
| Souleymane Doukara | 53 | 4 | 26 | 11 | 39 | 5 |
Indeed, as Opta stats show, Buckley managed just 121 minutes for the Whites spread across four appearances. The winger also took just 66 touches of the ball in the Championship before returning to Sunderland.
The most telling stat, however, is the fact he failed to create a single chance while in Yorkshire. Souleymane Doukara has managed four key passes in just 53 minutes of league football, while even centre-back Giuseppe Bellusci has created at least one.
Buckley completed only 25 passes for Leeds, with nine of them coming in the final third. Ultimately, the Sunderland winger didn’t stand a chance at Elland Road. His fitness was below par but his performances when he did get his opportunity were worse.
